Quiet Rewards

2257) Because I have spent 40 years of my life as a teacher, I don’t have firsthand knowledge about today’s minute in other professions. I do know, however, many examples of things teachers have done above and beyond for their students.

We have fed kids our snacks from home. We’ve bought yearbooks for students who didn’t have the money. We have bought coats for those who don’t have one and so much more.

All these things are examples of gracious giving. The Bible tells us it’s more blessed to give than to receive, Acts 20:35, and we teachers have often experienced this blessing.

Yet, Matthew 6:3tells us another important aspect of giving. Jesus said when we give, we shouldn’t let our left hand know what our right hand is doing. In other words, give to others under the radar.

When we give, it should be free of all strings, including the string of public approval.

When we give with these two quiet instructions together, blessings will fill our lives.
