Counting the Cost

2237) We needed to replace the roof on our home. Before the work could be done, we got estimates for the job.

When I think of estimates, another name for counting the cost, I realize how important they are.

Estimates force us to consider what “it” will cost us. They can also reveal value. If something is costly, it may indicate how important “it” is.

Jesus compares a commitment to him to building a tower in Luke 14:28.

Here he points out that no one would build a tower without getting an estimate, how much it costs and what its value is. To do so without inquiring is foolish.

To become a child of God, the cost was high to Jesus, and our commitment should reflect the value of Jesus’ death.
