2217) As a writer and experienced teacher, I have grown to acknowledge that words and how they are used are important.
When words like always or never are used, it paints a picture of the outcome you might expect when proceeding a verb. You always do that. You never clean up.
There is a small word in John 16:33 which I notice and have deemed important. Here Jesus said, In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. (ESV)
The word I see standing out is have. When Jesussaid he has overcome the world, the word overcome means conquer.
All the evil, violence, animosity, suffering, illness and death have already been overcome or conquered by Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection.
It’s like a ballgame you already know the victorious win. Knowing this ahead of time changes your courage, outlook and confidence.
