What Looks Versus What Is

2214) The older I get, the more I understand that what I see isn’t always what reality is.

We all see the world through the lenses of our experiences, and yet, good and evil exist regardless of how we see them.

Seeing this world in its spiritually fallen state can be hard to watch. Murder, hatred, deception, betrayal and more are not hidden from our vision.

But there’s hope, and it’s found in John 16:33. Jesus is telling his disciples about his death, and knowing these things and other facts is hard to deal with, so he reminds them not to be discouraged or fearful because (he) has overcome the world.

There is nothing too evil; too deceitful; too violent; too deceptive that Jesus cannot overcome.

What looks like defeat isn’t. Jesus is the victor, and he tells us this to bring hope in troubling times.
