Who I’m Not

2165) When Jesus walked the earth, he spent a lot of time telling people who he is. The Good Shepherd. (John 10:11). The Way, the Truth and the Life. (John 14:6) The Light of the World. (John 9:15)

Jesus also spent time telling people who he is not. One example is found in John 10:10.

He tells his listeners he will not steal, kill and destroy as a thief does. I understand this to mean Jesus doesn’t spend his time plotting bad things for his children.

He doesn’t dangle something in front of our eyes and yank it back when we reach for it.

He doesn’t kill or destroy out of uncontrolled fury or selfishness.

A lot of times, we see Jesus’ actions or inactions through the lenses of our personal experiences. These lenses don’t always help us focus on reality.
