2092) I’ve recently heard something that was helpful and it is to think of your life like a recipe for a cake. There are some ingredients you would eat separately.
It might be sugar or a drop of vanilla in a hot drink. But there are other ingredients which you probably wouldn’t eat separately, such as raw eggs or salt.
Separately, these ingredients may not taste too good, but together, they make a wonderful taste. This is a good way to see your life. Things that make up who we are may not seem so good by themselves, but combined, the product can be heavenly.
I was thinking on these things, when I read Matthew 16:6, Jesus said not to ingest the “leaven” or yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees because this ingredient is so strong, it will ruin your cake.
Who were these people? They were the highly respected religious leaders of the New Testament. They were thought of as holy and this often led many of them to add their own leaven/yeast to the product God meant for people to be.
The religious leaders were legalistic, and enforced the rules of the Bible and other rules they made. They had no room for grace, so life for them (and what they told God’s people too) was focused only on rules, rules, rules.
They did not recognize the reason for the Old Testament rules; to show people they cannot keep God’s rules and they needed a Savior.
There are many things that make up the recipe of our lives and the ingredient of grace keeps the cake tasting good.
