2086) Conversation is important. If you don’t speak your words, your relationship with others will fade.
It’s hard to have conversations sometimes because there could be misunderstandings, words drenched in emotions that others don’t understand, and there’s always the fact that sometimes our vulnerability is abused by listeners.
None of these things exist when we pray, which is having a conversation with God. He always listens, understands what you mean, is interested in the words we used drenched in emotion and will never use our words against us. Sounds like a great relationship.
So, why is prayer an act of faith? If you work your way through the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13, praying or talking with God with these words requires faith. How?
Our Father: I have faith that I can come to God, who is my Abba meaning, Daddy. I have faith I am God’s child. (vs. 9)
Thy will be done: I need faith to believe that even the hard things that happen, God can make good. (vs. 10)
Give us our daily bread: I ask for what I need and, by faith, trust God will provide. (vs. 11)
Forgive my transgressions (sins): By faith, I believe I am forgiven, so I don’t need to keep punishing myself continually. (vs. 12)
Deliver us from evil: In spite of all the evil in the world, by faith I believe God will give deliverance from it, if not now, then in the next life. (vs. 13)
Prayer is an act of faith. It transforms the one speaking and those connected with the speaker. Try it today.
