Aftertaste

2016) I remember someone telling me about the history of a church I was attending. They had worked there for several years and were leaving for another ministry. This person told my husband and me this church formed out of a caustic break from another one. There were harsh words and bitterness shared in the split with both churches who were convinced they were in the right.

Sometimes church splits are needed, but when it’s based on selfishness and piety, there is an aftertaste that can corrupt anyone who becomes connected.

Proverbs 20:17 tells us there is another thing that has a bitter aftertaste and that’s deception. When you put a spin on a situation to make it seem you are in the right, it will not produce lasting good fruit. There will always be a bitter aftertaste.
