2004) I often think I should have become an etymologist because I have always been fascinated by words and what they mean. From a young age, I can remember listening to songs and focusing on what was being said. This fascination has paid off in my teaching and writing career.
With this craving to understand words, when I read Proverbs 12:18, I had no problem understanding. It says rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. (ESV)
It’s good to remember we hold both swords and balm in our mouths. We must decide which we want to use.
